Gus Miftah, as a contemporary preacher, utilizes these spaces, both directly and through digital media, to convey inclusive and communicative preaching. This study aims to analyze the process of encoding da'wah messages by Gus Miftah in the video “LC Karaoke Bertanya, Gus Miftah Ngaji di Boshe” and the audience’s reception (decoding) through comments on YouTube. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and Stuart Hall’s encoding-decoding theory, data were collected through video documentation and purposive observation of comments. The results show that the da'wah messages are constructed contextually and humanistically, with a relaxed, humorous style and language familiar to nightlife workers. The analysis reveals three audience reception positions: the majority fully accept the message, a small portion critically engages with the context, and others reject the preaching method as incompatible with traditional values. These findings indicate that the audience’s cultural, social, and religious backgrounds strongly influence the response to da'wah. This study enriches the discourse on digital da'wah and emphasizes the importance of understanding the audience as active subjects in communication. Conclusion: A contextual preaching approach effectively penetrates non-conventional spaces and is widely accepted, despite resistance from conservative and critical audiences.
Luluk Ilma Inun Nur Rovida Femila Sari Luluk Fikri Zuhriyah Copyright (c) 2025 Luluk Ilma Inun, Nur Rovida Femila Sari, Luluk Fikri Zuhriyah https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2025-06-24 2025-06-24 5 1 35 46 10.54150/syiar.v5i1.645 Representation of the Exploitation of Women in Religious Institutions in the Film “Maharaj” https://jurnal.staithawalib.ac.id/index.php/syiar/article/view/638
The exploitation of women within religious institutions is driven by patriarchy and the manipulation of religion, resulting in sexual violence, discrimination, and systemic gender injustice. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with semiotic analysis. Data collection was carried out through observation and documentation. Triangulation of techniques and time was used to ensure data validity. Research findings show that the film Maharaj reveals the exploitation of women in religious institutions through visual symbolism, body gestures, and rituals such as Charan Seva, which reflect patriarchal and spiritual domination legitimized by culture. The representation of submissive and silent women becomes a marker of systemic oppression. A cultural feminist approach is used to highlight the courage of women to resist this structure. The spiral of silence theory explains the victims’ silence as a result of social and religious stigma. Karsandas Mulji appears as a symbol of resistance, opening space for discourse through media. This film acts as a form of social criticism that calls for critical awareness, justice, and gender equality. The research highlights the interconnection between religiosity, persuasive da’wah communication, and public tendencies in selecting and consuming halal-certified products. This study employs a quantitative methodology using proportional sampling techniques, involving 120 respondents, and is analyzed through Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to test the validity, reliability, and structural model hypotheses. Findings indicate that 78.9% of respondents perform obligatory prayers (shalat fardhu) very frequently, 88.9% fast during Ramadan regularly, and 55% rarely read the Qur’an. The total score of ritual worship (ibadah mahdah) reached 2,071 out of a maximum of 2,725, reflecting a high level of religiosity. The Likelihood Ratio test reveals a significant relationship between obligatory prayer and both the rationale for choosing halal products (p = 0.0054) and the ability to verify halal status (p = 0.0199). Observing obligatory fasting shows significant correlation with halal product preferences (p = 0.0037) and the boycott of Israeli products (p = 0.0196). Voluntary fasting is significantly related to the duration of halal product usage (p = 0.0020) and halal verification (p = 0.0295). The findings indicate that students demonstrate varying levels of media literacy when verifying information on TikTok. While some can critically evaluate and filter content, many still consume and accept information without verification. TikTok's algorithm prioritises viral content and accelerates the spread of hoaxes, especially when the content is visually engaging. The lack of digital literacy education, social influence, and limited training in information verification further exacerbate the issue. Students tend to verify information only when it is perceived as personally relevant. Therefore, enhancing media literacy is crucial to enable students to be more critical, selective, and responsible in accessing and disseminating information. Employing a qualitative case study approach, the research utilises content analysis of Gerindra's TikTok videos and in-depth interviews with students, applying data triangulation to comprehensively understand digital political communication and its effects. The findings indicate that the Gerindra Party employs diverse political communication strategies on TikTok, including informative, persuasive, entertaining, and responsive content to engage a young audience. Prabowo Subianto, as the principal figure, prominently features in the content, with videos lasting 30-60 seconds being the most effective in increasing engagement, averaging 1.2 million views. Content showcasing informal moments of political figures elicited higher responses than formal content. However, TikTok presents limitations in delivering in-depth political issues, and the study also found low digital literacy among students in verifying information. These findings highlight the effectiveness and challenges of digital political communication via TikTok. The study concludes that it is essential to integrate digital citizenship education in higher education institutions to enable students to analyse political content critically, and political parties should develop effective multi-platform communication strategies
Abdul Rahman Winda Kustiawan Copyright (c) 2025 Abdul Rahman, Winda Kustiawan https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2025-09-20 2025-09-20 5 1 239 252 10.54150/syiar.v5i1.787
